Easter Eggstravaganza (Nags Head) April 4. Join us across the street from the dunes outside Kitty Hawk Kites on Saturday to take your picture with the Easter Bunny and let your kids join in the fun during our annual Jockey’s Ridge Crossing Easter Egg Hunt! We will be hosting small-scale Easter Egg Hunts on Saturday, April 4th starting at 10:30 AM. You can invite your friends and family to participate with special prizes included! Each Easter Egg Hunt will be 15 minutes with a $7 registration fee for each participant. We highly recommend registering ahead of time, as spots typically fill up before event day.
Corolla Wild Horse Fund Spring Open House (Grandy) April 18. Join us Saturday, April 18th for our Spring Open House at the Farm! Visit the farm on the mainland in Grandy and meet the rescued Banker horses currently in our care on the walking tour, where you can spend time with our staff. We will have two free movie screenings of The Secret of Corolla, a 32-minute documentary on the Bankers, the culture, and lifestyle of the island.
Dare A250 Faire (Manteo) April 18. In celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Dare County and the National Park Service will host a full-day patriotic festival in downtown Manteo and at Roanoke Island Festival Park. Activities will take place throughout downtown Manteo from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., before transitioning to Roanoke Island Festival Park for the All-American Show—an evening celebration featuring headlining musical acts (to be announced soon) and a special performance highlighting Dare County’s rich history.
ESA Mid-Atlantic Surfing Regionals (Nags Head) April 24-26. The Eastern Surfing Association, ESA, is the largest amateur surfing association in the world. Enjoy a rare opportunity to see the best surfers on the East Coast compete in the Mid-Atlantic Surfing Regionals. The action goes down at the beach next to Jennette’s Pier. Spectators are welcome to spread out a beach towel or pull up a beach chair along the sand, and watch the incredible skill and talent which will take place along the waves. There are multiple days of competition, and visitors are welcome to cheer on their favorites in the competitive but fun coastal environment. (People are also welcome to take a stroll along the pier itself, which will provide an aerial vantage point of the competition.) A true display of incredible surfing, this event is a show that simply can't be missed during a spring OBX getaway.
Flying Pirate Half Marathon (Kill Devil Hills) April 24-26. The annual Outer Banks Flying Pirate Half Marathon is 13.1 miles of scenic beauty through the charming landscapes of Coastal North Carolina! In addition the the weekend's namesake event, we're hosting a Fun Run, 5K and 8K as well. Choose your preferred distance, or go big with the Double Dare Challenge where you complete the Half PLUS either the 5K or 8K.
41st Annual 4 Plus 4 Wheel Drive Surf Fishing Tournament (Hatteras) April 25-26. We invite you to the 41st Annual Surf Fishing Tournament! Fish your heart out for 24 hours on the sandy beaches of Hatteras, NC! This is an individual fishing tournament only. Your feet must be in the sand. You must fish with a rod and reel, no nets. Weigh-in will take place from 6:30-8:00 am at the Cape Hatteras Secondary School on Sunday, April26th.
